Boxing Treat – Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury

Boxing Treat – Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury

Venue: Staples Center, Los Angeles

Date: Saturday, December 1, 2018 (but Sunday December 2 in the UK).

Time: From 04:00 GMT on Sunday, 2 December

Deontay Wilder believes that by beating Luis Ortiz he has already had the best possible preparation for Tyson Fury.

The WBC heavyweight champion defends his title against Fury on Saturday at Los Angeles’ Staples Center in what is widely considered his most difficult challenge.

The American insists he learnt how to win against an undefeated opponent who outwitted even the great Wladimir Klitschko.

Media Hype Got Wilder

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder’s final news conference descended into chaos as they clashed on stage three days before their heavyweight bout in Los Angeles.

A packed room watched the verbal jousting and, after Fury’s words saw Wilder grow visibly more irate, the pair began pushing during a face off.

Their teams got involved, prompting 60 seconds of mayhem.

Fury removed his shirt as security intervened, before the duo and their entourages were cleared from the stage.

What had started with both men hyping the Staples Center bout developed into an exchange of insults, with both men promising a knockout.

Media commentary and predictions

With Fury uninspiring in both of his comeback bouts, and question marks still persisting over his fitness, Wilder goes in as favourite. We may be expecting Fury to cause Wilder problems, winning rounds behind the jab and forcing the American to miss, just as he did in Dusseldorf vs. Klitschko.

Fury is likely to tire, though, and Wilder will seize any opportunity to land one of his swinging overhand rights. And after that, it could be all over.
